PHS Band

Alright. My first few entries on this thing probably won' t involve many pictures because all I have are images of simply my friends making faces and not people actually doing stuff. My first entry is going to be about the Plymouth High School Band. It means a great deal to me, and I have a fair bit of good thoughts on it. We have two distinct seasons and a winter sub- season for people interested.

Marching Band
Marching band is the first season of the Band year. It begins in August and ends at the beginning of November formally, but we do have a few performances scheduled into the later part of Fall. Our last event is marching in a parade with our town's Santa for the tree lighting. This one is by far my favorite. The PHS Band is such a charismatic group of people. I joined my freshmen year and can't remember ever making that many new friends that quickly. They're really not afraid to put all of their best forward. So being able to move around and talk to all of these people is a blast. I get pretty irritated at football games when seventh grade kids on the sidelines yell sarcastic remarks at the band, because they really have NO idea how much work goes into it. In the Summer we do basics marching for  HOURS in the sun on the asphalt, it kills your legs. It's physically trying and mentally trying. Our performances are called field shows. We march on a football field making formations while playing AND keeping your feet in time. You would think it's tricky, and to be honest it is. But, after reps and reps and reps of the same thing, I'd hope you'd be able to memorize that kind of thing.

Our drill instructor is a charismatic guy who is EXTREMELY advanced in his field. He has so many credits with so many marching groups. He pushes us SO hard because he knows we have potential, and he always says potential is the worst thing to have, because if you have potential, it means you aren't GOOD! He can come off to a lot of band students as rude but I and even more students would disagree. He's hilarious and a strong and respected leader that we as a band are incredibly lucky to have.

Yeah I started this post with a lot in mind but now its not on my mind anymore. I'll probably check this thing later.

So...

Well, about in hour ago I was sitting in my last period class and I was going off on my own again, ranting to the people around me, laughing and talking. Pretty much me in every class. The girl in front of me told me I should start a blog, and I thought about it and, why not? Why not do it? Everybody needs a space to share their opinions on things, and even if nobody cares, it can be good to get your thoughts out there. It may be useful in the future for me to have a repository of my thoughts to look back on. I've always been a believer that things all make sense in SOMEBODY's head, and the more you pour it over in your own head the less sense your message makes when you actually publish it. Long story short, I'm here to talk about whatever pops into my head and if you're interested read along.

Well now I'm going to tell a bit about myself. Not because I think anybody is interested, but for some reason I feel obligated. I am sixteen years old and attend Plymouth North High School as a sophomore. I am a pretty outgoing person, get good grades, and I really like life. I am involved in the PNHS Drama Club, music department, and other stuff. I've always been interested in the paper and student government, but there is only so much time in a day. Outside of school I am a ten year karate student and a swimmer in the summer. I also do community service for my church. My faith is Unitarian Universalist.

Armed with a digital camera my ambition is to chronicle my perspectives on a wide variety of things. Welcome to perspectives.
